Bonnie Tyler has been accused of miming after performing her hit single, Total Eclipse Of The Heart, “live” on Wednesday’s This Morning.
The singer, 71, appeared on the show to discuss her new memoir and the 40th anniversary of her chart-topping hit, telling presenters Craig Doyle and Josie Gibson, “I never get bored singing it. ”
Yet moments later, when she closed the show with a rendition of the song, she was called out for “lip-synching”, with fans comparing her to a puppet and saying it sounded like a foreign-language dub.
Shocked viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts, joking: “Leave bonnie tyler alone she’s been singing this song for 40 years straight and she couldn’t be bothered to sing it today #ThisMorning [sic]’;
“Ever wondered what it would be like to see a character from Thunderbirds sing. Well, thanks to #thismorning, we got to see Bonnie Tyler’s fantastic total eclipse of heart recreated by Gerry Anderson’s puppet team. ”
Others added: “Make at least an effort to mimic the FF”; it’s like watching a foreign advertisement dubbed into English”; What was the point of having it, might as well have just played the video! #This morning’; What were you looking at???#mimingfail’;
“I was hoping to hear his voice now. It’s a shame’; ‘Miming fail #thismorning #bonnietyler’; Cmon Bonnie love, we Welsh are supposed to be able to hold a tune, not MIME’; Wow what a bummer with lip sync Bonnie Tyler #ThisMorning
‘If you want to do mime, practice at least a little before!!’; Bad mime also on #ThisMorning’; @BonnieTOfficial. You have enough years to practice mime. You hope it would be a little better. It felt like you were singing a totally different song #ThisMorning #Bonnie #eclipse
‘Bonnie Tyler… This morning… No No No!!! I shouldn’t have cared…’; One of the best voices and she mimes. It’s so disappointing. #This morning.’
MailOnline has contacted representatives for Bonnie for comment.
Earlier in her appearance, Bonnie spoke about receiving an MBE from Prince William for her services to music.
She confessed: ‘I was nervous to meet William, even though I had met him a year before. But I walked in and he said ‘oh good to see you again, I saw you in Cardiff’, and I thought ‘like I’m going to forget’ so I said yes, and I saw your children.’
Renowned for a career spanning five decades, Bonnie said at the time: “I’m just a small town girl in Wales who loves to sing.
“So to be recognized for this in this way is very important to me, my family and my friends.”
Bonnie is no stranger to a TV mistake and in 2021 she left fans confused when she forgot her album name during an interview on Loose Women.
The Welsh singer struggled to remember the titles of her latest musical releases as she flipped from topic to topic, including the state of her hair and her brief encounter with the Pope.
Presenter Ruth Langsford told the star: “We’re going to tell you about the album that’s out now, but are you still looking for that massive ballad?”
Bonnie replied, “Oh, I have a wonderful songwriter right now called Steve Womack.
“I actually have quite a few wonderful songwriters, Desmond Child too, and they’ve written me some fabulous songs on my new album which is called, uh…” Bonnie paused as she searched in her brain for the name of her new album. .
“The best is yet to come,” she said as the Loose Women panelists called out the name in unison before bursting into laughter.
