Is it the iPhone 15? Apple’s next flagship smartphone dummy unit leaks online

Apple could be making some major changes to the next iPhone 15, it seems, following what appears to be a leak of the next big thing.

Images of an iPhone 15 Pro ‘dummy’ surfaced on the Chinese version of TikTok yesterday, allowing potential buyers to take a peek at what’s in store.

Although the device may look quite similar to the previous iPhone 14 Pro, huge changes can be seen on closer inspection.

The mute switch appears to have been replaced with a solid-state volume knob, supporting previous rumors.

It should look a lot like what’s currently seen on the Apple Watch Ultra, providing a press feel without physical movement using haptic feedback.

WHY APPLE RESISTED USB-C

Apple has long been a thorn in the side of EU plans to impose a unified standard for charging cables.

Apple says changing its iPhone charging ports to USB-C would “stifle innovation”.

Speaking last year, an Apple spokesperson said: “We believe regulations that mandate harmonization of smartphone chargers would stifle innovation rather than encourage it.”

“This will hurt consumers in Europe and the economy as a whole.”

The company is also believed to favor its proprietary cable for its higher waterproof rating than USB-C.

Additionally, Apple is able to regulate the quality of Lightning cables and accessories through its “Made for ‌iPhone‌” program.

It is also a source of profit that the company is probably reluctant to part with.

However, Apple switched its iPad tablets to USB-C in 2018.

If true, it will be the first time Apple has changed the button since the iPhone launched in 2007, likely allowing users to switch with its sensitivity.

The device also has a titanium frame and a USB-C charging port instead of the usual Lightning port.

The change to the charging port follows an earlier discussion by Apple executive Greg Joswiak, who said the tech giant needed to “comply” with new USB laws passed by the EU.

With that in mind, it’s already publicly known that the company is replacing its own Lightning charging technology – noticeable by its eight pins – with USB-C in EU countries.

He previously said: “Obviously we will have to comply; we have no choice, just like we do all over the world to comply with local laws.

“But we think the approach would have been better for the environment and better for our customers if the government weren’t so prescriptive.”

Despite this, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says some new Pro devices could be designed to support USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3, according to MacRumors.

It is understood that this would allow more advanced devices to transfer data faster than standard models.

In terms of cameras, the model in the video appears to retain the three rear lenses seen in the iPhone 14 Pro.

Currently, it’s unclear if the “dummy” is true to size or the look of the iPhones we might see in just a few months.

However, the images come after a number of other “leaks” online which show the product has similar features.

Last month, TikTok user @chenwen1987 uploaded images of what appeared to be an iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Just like the designs released yesterday, these models were shown to have only one long knob to adjust volume levels.

The images, later uploaded to Twitter, catalyzed mass speculation among potential buyers, with many wonder if Apple could lead to more software customization.

One Twitter user said, “Hopefully the new ‘silent mode’ haptic button will be programmable for different actions.”

Another added: “I guess the mute button will be a normal click button so they can use it as a hard reset button.”

Despite this, other images showed that the “base model” iPhone 15 still incorporated the mute switch, supporting those who prefer to stick to using their muscle memory.

Tech reviewer Sonny Dickson also revealed images of what appeared to be glass panels for the unreleased phones.

These images showed that the boundary between screen and bezel will soon be thinner than previous models, according to MacRumors.

The claim also backs up other rumors from last month, suggesting that the iPhone 15 Pro could be the first iPhone without physical buttons and will feature a thinner bezel, thicker camera bumps, more curved edges and side buttons. haptics.

This was shown in CAD (computer-aided design) files, obtained by 9to5Mac, which were allegedly donated to third-party iPhone case makers before the device was launched.

The website received these renders from a factory in China that was considered a “reliable case maker”.

Apple has been approached for comment.
