Shakira has spoken out following her split from ex Gerard Pique and amid her family’s move out of Spain.
The Colombian pop singer, 46, acknowledged there was a high level of interest in her own life, but called for her two sons, Milan and Sasha, to be allowed to live “healthy and happy lives”.
She has been the subject of a lot of attention after reports that she ended her relationship with footballer Gerard, with whom she shares her children.
She is also expected to face tax evasion charges after a Spanish judge approved a lawsuit last year. Shakira has denied any wrongdoing.
In a lengthy Instagram post, written in Spanish on Monday, the singer wrote: “Respected friends, journalists and the media At this time of change in my life as a public figure, it is understandable that there is a permanent curiosity on the part of the press around me and my family.
“However, my sons Milan and Sasha have had a very difficult year, enduring a relentless siege… (from) the paparazzi and various media in Barcelona.
“Now that they are entering a new stage in their lives, I urge the media…to please respect their right to privacy.”
She continued, “Please refrain from following them to and from school, waiting for them at the door of our house, or following them to their extracurricular activities.
The singer said her sons, aged 10 and 8, should be treated “as humanely as possible” and allowed to live their lives in peace without “constant scrutiny from the cameras”.
“I ask this not as an artist, but rather as a mother, who wishes to protect and care for the psychological and emotional well-being of her children, so that they can live happy and healthy lives, like every child deserves it,” she wrote.
Shakira has reportedly left her beloved Barcelona for good after receiving an ‘eviction notice’ from her ex’s father Gerard.
Singer Whenever, Wherever has confirmed she is leaving the Spanish city amid reports that she and her children will be moving to Miami, and Spanish media reported it comes after she received a request for her and her parents to abandon the former family home of the ex-couple.
It is the same apartment where Shakira would have installed a witch doll on her balcony, which faces her mother-in-law’s house.
Both El Periodico and La Vanguardia reported that Shakira was told in March she had until this month to move out of the Esplugues de Llobregat mansion where she has been living since splitting from the former footballer Gerard last year or face “compensation”.
It was reported that the request came via email signed by Gerard’s father, Joan Pique, who is believed to be the sole director of his son’s holding company, Kerad Holding.
El Periodico reported in reference to the move request: “We now understand the photos of the singer crying.”
In an Instagram statement in English and Spanish on how she left Barcelona, Shakira said: “I moved to Barcelona to give my children stability, the same we are now looking for in another corner of the world next door. family, friends and the sea.

‘Thank you to my Spanish fans who have always showered me with their love and loyalty.
“For you, see you later, and as my father said so many times, see you around the bends!”
Shakira and Gerard have split after a 12-year relationship, and the 36-year-old former footballer recently revealed he listened to Shakira’s so-called ‘diss track’ which appears to poke fun at him and his new girlfriend friend of 23 years, Clara Chia. .
The singer released the track Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53 which she says was a cathartic way to expel her pain over their separation.
Gerard said in an interview with Barcelona radio station RAC1: “Yes, of course (I listened to it.)”
But adding that he didn’t want to comment further, the former Barcelona centre-back said: “I don’t want to talk about it – I don’t think I should talk about it.”
After a long awkward silence, the ex-footballer stressed that all he wanted was for his children to be happy.
He said: “We have a responsibility, those of us who are parents must protect our children.
‘Everyone makes their own decisions. I no longer want to talk. I just want my children to be well… I’ve always had a close relationship with my children.
