Sir Rod Stewart has secretly renewed his wedding vows to wife Penny Lancaster for the second time while touring Australia, according to reports.

The British singer, 79, arrived in Australia with his wife, 52, last month to play a series of shows, and according to Woman’s Day magazine the couple have found some time away from the spotlight to reaffirm their marriage .

The couple, who recently traveled to Sydney as part of their tour, are said to have reaffirmed their marriage in recent weeks surrounded by sons Alastair, 17, and Aiden, 12, and niece Raphaella, 18.

The couple married in 2007 and are approaching their 16th wedding anniversary. They previously renewed their vows for the first time to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary in 2017.

The Maggie May hitmaker even “spaced out her tour” so her children could attend the ceremony, according to the publication.

A close family friend said: “There’s a very good reason Rod insisted he space out his tour dates – it’s the perfect place and the perfect time to renew their wedding vows. “

The insider claimed the couple had been planning to remarry for years, but had to put it on hold until this year.

They added: “Now they can’t wait and are taking this opportunity to do something special while they are here.”

The couple were seen going out on a boat in Sydney Harbor last week, sparking speculation about vow renewals.

They later celebrated their union by having dinner with Australian TV and radio presenter Richard Wilkins.

The friend added: ‘Penny and Rod love being in love.

“They think there’s something fun about celebrating their vows in different places around the world, so why not do it all over again in Sydney!”

The couple’s first renewal of vows took place in an intimate ceremony held at their 18th century home in Essex, in front of 100 family and friends.

Good morning! revealed at the time that the couple exchanged the same vows as they did in their original ceremony next to a beech tree at the bottom of their garden.

The two opted to wear white for the occasion, which saw Penny walking down the aisle past her adorable pet cavapoo Bubbles, before joining guests under a lavish marquee for a night of eating and dancing.

Discussing the decision to renew their vows with the magazine, the model admitted the ceremony was more special after ten happy years of marriage.

She said: “Being able to reflect on those ten years and say those words to ourselves while knowing that we mean them is important. It was more special.

“You marry with the hope that you will be together; when we renewed our vows, we pronounced them not with mere hope, but with assurance. Besides hope, there is also faith, love and the coming together of the whole family.

Penny and Rod met in 1999, after she offered to take pictures of him on tour – having turned her attention from modeling to photography a few years before they met.

The couple then married in Portofino, Italy in 2007 and enjoyed a lavish honeymoon aboard a yacht in the same beautiful harbour.

The couple share two sons together – Alastair, who was born two years before their wedding day, and Aidan.

Rod then admitted to the magazine that he loved his wife “more than ever”, after renewing their vow a decade after their original nuptials.

He gushed: ‘Penny is my whole world. Love means a lot of things to a lot of people, but to me it means wanting to share everything with the one you love and I love Penny now more than ever, if that’s possible.

Sir Rod was married twice before trying the knot with Penny, first to American actress Alana Hamilton from 1979 to 1984 and more recently to model Rachel Hunter from 1990 to 2006.

Rod welcomed his eldest, Sarah, with his ex Susannah Boffey. While he shares daughter Kimberly and son Sean with ex-wife Alana Stewart.

He had his daughter Ruby with his ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg. While married to ex-wife Rachel Hunter, Stewart had two more children, Renee and Liam.

Despite being the picture of love now, Penny previously revealed that she threatened Rod with an ultimatum over their relationship when they started dating.

She said: ‘He was still playing games when I met him, he didn’t think he had settled down. I didn’t want to be a girlfriend, I wanted to be “the” girlfriend.

“I said from the start – please don’t do this to me. I understand if you want to hang out with other girls, but I don’t want to play games.

“I remember finding a photo of him with another woman and I said, I warned you, goodbye and I walked.”

She went on to admit that putting the foot down was vital to the success of their relationship, adding, “He freaked out and said I didn’t know if I should take you seriously.”

“The fact that I spoke for myself meant he respected me and we ended up being a perfect match.”
